
Job Description
A District Librarian is responsible for managing school libraries and providing library and information services at multiple high school buildings. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that libraries are the welcoming heart of Weld RE-4 schools, where all come to learn, discover, create, and connect. A District Librarian collaborates with both school and district-level staff to integrate library resources, promote a love for reading, develop library systems, and foster literacy, research, and information skills.

- Provide leadership, structures, and expertise to ensure library programming and services support student learning and are aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of the school and the district.
- Oversee multiple school libraries in partnership with building Library Aides, including organizing and maintaining the collection, managing circulation, and ensuring a welcoming and functional library environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility, creativity and responsiveness in meeting the needs of multiple buildings.
- Select and acquire library materials, including books, periodicals, and digital resources, based on the needs and interests of each school community.
- Stay current with children’s and young adult literature, literacy best practices, and library trends.
- Develop instruction, programs, and/or environments for students that support learning, discovery, creativity, and connection.
- Provide regular guidance and direction to building Library Aides: set goals & expectations, offer feedback, and provide training on library procedures, systems and tools.
- Establish respectful, collaborative relationships with school and district leaders, teachers, colleagues, students, families, and community members.
- Strive to create library experiences that bring joy, inspiration, and excitement.
- Curate, promote, and integrate print & digital resources in support of curriculum and instructional goals.
- Demonstrate curiosity and a commitment to continual growth by engaging in and leading professional learning that aligns with practice and purpose.
- Partner with district library services colleagues to ensure alignment and consistency districtwide.
- Manage library budgets and resources effectively.
- Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary based on education and years of service, according to the Weld RE-4 Teacher Salary Schedule.

Additional Info & Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education and/or Library Science.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in library services or education.
- Teaching and/or children’s & teen programming experience strongly preferred.
- Requires a valid teaching license from the Colorado Department of Education OR a bachelor's degree or higher in Library and Information Science (alternative licensure available)
